On interpreting ancient Egyptian funerary texts

Ancient Egyptian funerary texts have traditionally been read as providing detailed, literal descriptions of afterlife beliefs, but various aspects this view begun to be questioned in recent research. The present article reviews such contributions contrast the classical established by Kurt Sethe (1931), arguing that it is possible several respects extend their stances and conclusions. resulting one which very notion “funerary texts” a text genre sui generis questioned, along with defining feature contain transcendent, personal afterlife.
